Cumbernauld House Park once again provided a fitting stage for the Scottish National Cross Country Relay Championships on Saturday 25th October 2025. Over sixty clubs tackled the rolling 4 km loops, with close to 1500 athletes racing, and crowds lining the course to create a superb atmosphere.
Corstorphine Athletics Club (CAAC) fielded 42 runners across all age groups, from juniors through to masters, showing both the club’s strength in depth and unmistakable team spirit.
Senior & Masters Highlights
The standout result of the day came from the CAAC Masters Men, who stormed to the gold medal in just over 54 minutes. The quartet of Dermot Cummins (12:46), DJ Macaulay (13:09), Iain Hutchinson (13:58) and Tom Ferrington (14:12) put together a brilliant team performance that underlined the club’s continued dominance in Scottish veteran distance running. It was a commanding display from start to finish, with the team holding the lead through all four legs to claim the national title. The B team also had a strong run, ensuring that both CAAC teams finished in the top 10.

In the Senior Men’s race, the CAAC A-team finished 10th of 120 teams – an excellent result in a field stacked with national talent. Angus Smith led the charge with an outstanding 11:54 opening leg, followed by strong runs from Ewan Brown, Fearghas Thomson and Calum McKenzie all lapping in around the 13 minute mark. The CAAC B and C teams crossed the line in 26th and 54th respectively; clear signs of strength through the squad.

In the M50 (Veterans 50+) race, the CAAC A team of Jeremy Rogers, Iain Macleod and Andy Nichol raced hard to place 8th, with the B team 6 minutes back.
The Senior Women’s A-team delivered another impressive performance, finishing 12th of 71 teams in a highly competitive field. Kirsty Macaulay (15:11) led off strongly before Kirstin Maxwell (15:27), Esme Callander (16:48) and Kara McKenzie-Tait (16:25) brought the team home inside 64 minutes.
The Senior Women’s B-team also impressed, finishing 32nd, with Emily Crusher, Lauren Doney, Megan Smith and Colette Revadillo combining to cover their 16km in 70 minutes..
Junior Races
In the younger age groups, Beth Craigie, Callie Logan and Belle Logan represented CAAC brilliantly in the U13–U17 composite relay, finishing 28th of 92 teams in the 3 x 2.5km relay.
In the male junior relay, Tymek Chmielowski anchored the CAAC team home to 21st of 84 teams, following solid runs from Roi Lopez Porras and Fraser Shaw.
Club Spirit and Atmosphere
As ever, the Cumbernauld relays were about more than results. It was a day of club camaraderie, loud side-line support, and shared post-race smiles. With national champions among them and plenty of fine team performances, the CAAC camp had plenty to celebrate..
Congratulations to every runner, team manager, and supporter who made the trip.
