Club records are an important part of CAAC’s history. They celebrate outstanding performances, connect today’s athletes with those who came before them, and provide targets for the next generation to aim for. View current records, and submit new ones here.

Over the past few months, however, updating the club records has been far more complicated than simply adding new performances.

Following the introduction of Scottish Athletics’ revised “even” age groups, junior competition categories have changed across the sport. Events that were previously contested in age groups such as U13, U15 and U17 are now aligned to U12, U14, U16 and U18 age categories.

While the change simplifies the competition pathway for athletes, it created a significant challenge for historical club records.

Every junior record had to be reviewed and reassessed. A performance that was previously listed as a U15 record, for example, might have been achieved by an athlete who would now fall into the U14 category, or the U16 category, under the new system. Establishing the correct age group for every historical performance required careful checking and verification across the entire records database.

To make matters even more challenging, much of this work took place while Power of 10 was unavailable during its major upgrade and relaunch, removing one of the usual sources used for record verification.

This has been a substantial undertaking, and CAAC would like to thank Kira Mourao for the many hours of work she has invested in reviewing, updating and validating the records. It has required patience, attention to detail and a deep commitment to ensuring that the club’s history is recorded accurately.

As a result of this work, several athletes now find themselves recognised as official club record holders under the revised age group structure.
