π§ About the Group
The Sprint Squad is CAACβs dedicated sprint development group for athletes who want to train seriously and improve speed.
It is designed both for younger athletes stepping up from junior squads (typically aged 14+) and for adults who want to begin or return to structured sprint training.
Sprints Coach Lewis, focuses on building strong technical foundations while gradually increasing training intensity and specificity.

π What Training Looks Like
Sessions are structured, progressive, and built around the key components of sprint performance:
- Acceleration development
- Max velocity sprinting and upright mechanics
- Speed endurance work (race modelling over 150β400m)
- Technical drills to reinforce efficient movement patterns
- Strength, plyometrics, and injury prevention work
Training is delivered in a supportive group environment, with athletes often split into ability and speed-based groups within sessions to ensure appropriate challenge for everyone.
Summers sessions are at the track, with Winter sessions either indoors, or in suitable outdoor spaces.
π Progression & Pathway
Junior Athletes join the group if they have a preference for Sprinting over the Junior Endurance Squad. They will have had some introduction to sprinting and are ready to begin training with more structure and intent.
Athletes may develop by:
- Specialising further in specific sprint distances
- Competing at higher levels of competition. From Open Meets, to District and National Championships.
π§βπ€βπ§ Culture & Atmosphere
The Sprint Squad is a focused but welcoming training environment. Athletes are encouraged to push themselves, while also supporting teammates across different ability levels and stages of development.
There is a strong emphasis on effort, technical improvement, and consistent attendance, alongside a positive and inclusive group culture.
