January 31st 2026 brought the Scottish Masters XC Championships to Tollcross Park, where a two‑kilometre loop served up a demanding blend of sharp climbs and fast, free‑running descents. Firm ground and only the odd patch of mud made for excellent underfoot conditions, though a stiff headwind on the upper section added its own brand of resistance, especially over multiple laps: three for the women’s 6k and four for the men’s 8k.
CAAC were out in force, with eleven members taking part.

At the finish, Dermot Cummins (CAAC) had moved into the lead but unfortunately was misdirected. Peter Avent of Shettleston was first over the line (27:16), with Cummins taking third spot 7 seconds back. Dermot’s misfortune has borne the gag: What did the Master’s XC finishing officials and a good magic trick have in common? A temporary bit of misdirection.
Our thanks to club photographer, Stephen Jack, for his attendance, capturing the CAAC team in full flow, photos below.
