Braids XC 20th Nov

The following information is copied from the 'Haries' website. The Braids is an excellent and demanding course requiring a combination of speed, good downhill technique and stamina. Don't try and avoid the mud bath on the back straight, CAAC athletes go straight through the middle! I offer the prize of a pint at KB and/or elsewhere ( where?) for the best mud mohican up the back of that nice white vest!! This race is best run with walshes or trail shoes in my opinion, see you there. Martin The Braid Hills Cross Country Races are held annually by the club on the Braid Hills in South Edinburgh. This year, they will be held on the afternoon of Saturday 20th November 2004-CONFIRMED. Please note earlier start time changes! The Women's Race will start at 2:00pm and is one lap (approx. 3 miles) and the Men's Race will start at 2:30pm (two laps; 6 miles). The course is undulating and often wet, with one steep downhill on each lap. Racing studs are recommended, given that much of the course runs over a gravel bridlepath. The races are challenging and popular with both local club runners, and Universities from around the British Isles. There are a range of excellent prizes on offer, including Run and Become vouchers and alcohol. THE BRAIDS HILL COURSE Current Men's Braids Champions are Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds who won the close 2003 race ahead of Leeds University and Manchester University. For the Ladies, EUH&H also took the title, from a team of "Old Hairy Ladies" with Leeds in third. Results from the 2003 race are available here. Entry is on the day and is £4 (£6 unaffiliated). Registration will be at KB House at Kings Buildings, West Mains Road, and will be open from 12:30pm onwards. Showering and changing facilities are also available here, along with food and drink. It is a 15 minute to the start from KB HOUSE! (please click on link below for directions). Results and presentations will be made here as soon as possible after the race. DIRECTIONS TO START LINE: From KB Clubhouse, turn right onto West Mains Road; then take a right turn at roundabout onto Mayfield Road. Continue up Liberton Road, past Blackford Glen Road, BUT turn Right onto the PATHWAY that takes you up past Liberton Tower Mains, across the fields until reaching Liberton Tower on Braids Hill Drive. Cross road where the start/finish line is based. CLICK HERE FOR MAP (FOLLOW THE HIGHLIGHTED ORANGE PATH INDICATED ON MAP)

Corstorphine usually has a very good turnout at this event and a visit to the pub afterwards. (Could there be some connection?) Where will we go this year?

It was a very clean cross country on Saturday: all the mud was frozen solid. Some good performances, notably Phyllis achieving 1st V Woman. Once again a good turn out, but seems a shame non of our 'top' athletes cant make it? Heres a wee reminder of club stats of results under 36mins, I thought there may of been a bit more by now. member r_time r_distance r_note date KEITH-H 34m36s 34 SEN-M 2003 DAVID-L 35m36s 36 VET-M 2003 86, David Law 33m 42.00s 21 17/11/1994 86, David Law 34m 27.00s 19 01/11/1995 71, Keith Hood 35m 20.00s 23 25/11/2000 6, Scott Bisset 35m 24.00s 27 01/11/1995 122, Paul O'Brien 35m 46.00s 34 01/11/1995

I was wondering that Linda, because Moray mentioned he stopped to chat to you and Phyllis when he was jogging round watching the races.
